Official VMU-3 Phantom Alpha One All Star Patch — USMC Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron MQ-9A Reaper Embroidered Patch
Phantoms — Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron 3
The Phantoms see everything — and now they're flying the Reaper over the Pacific.
VMU-3 "Phantoms" is a Marine unmanned aerial vehicle squadron based at MCAS Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, under MAG-24, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing. Activated on September 12, 2008, at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, California, VMU-3 was the third UAV unit established in the Marine Corps. The Phantoms cut their teeth in combat during deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, flying the RQ-7 Shadow and later the RQ-21 Blackjack — logging over 21,000 flight hours and 2,300 sorties during one Afghanistan deployment alone. VMU-3 earned the 2011 Commandant's Aviation Trophy for outstanding squadron performance. In 2023, the Phantoms achieved initial operational capability with the MQ-9A Reaper, transitioning to a medium-altitude, long-endurance platform that dramatically expands their ISR, electronic warfare, and strike coordination capability across the Indo-Pacific theater. The Alpha One All Star design celebrates top performers within the squadron.
Perfect For: VMU-3 Phantoms past and present, MQ-9A Reaper operators, MAG-24 and 1st MAW personnel, unmanned aviation Marines, and USMC squadron patch collectors.
