Lucky Red Lions — Fortune Favors the Bold
The shamrock tab of VMM-363 represents the legendary luck that has followed the Red Lions through seven decades of combat and peacetime operations. From atomic tests to Vietnam to Iraq and Afghanistan, the Lucky Red Lions have lived up to their name. This small tab patch is a perfect addition to any Red Lions collection.
VMM-363, the Lucky Red Lions, was activated on 2 June 1952 at MCAS Santa Ana as HMR-363. The squadron earned its nickname from Korean Marines during early operations and participated in Operation Desert Rock — the first atomic test to use ground troops. Deployed to Vietnam in 1965, the Red Lions flew UH-34Ds and later CH-53As in combat. After transitioning through multiple helicopter types and deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan, the squadron was redesignated VMM-363 and transitioned to the MV-22B Osprey. Now based at MCB Hawaii under MAG-24 and the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, the Lucky Red Lions continue their Pacific legacy.
Perfect For:
VMM-363 Lucky Red Lions veterans and active duty Marines, MV-22 Osprey community, MAG-24 personnel, MCB Hawaii community, and Red Lions heritage collectors.
