Official VMM-262 Iron Fist 2023 Patch - Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 262 Flying Tigers Exercise Iron Fist 2023 Official Embroidered Patch, commemorating the 17th iteration of the annual U.S.-Japan bilateral exercise.
Flying Tigers forward, Ospreys airborne, and the Indo-Pacific secured one bilateral exercise at a time.
VMM-262, the Flying Tigers, is based at Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa, Japan, under Marine Aircraft Group 36 and the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, flying the MV-22B Osprey as the aviation combat element of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, the only continuously forward-deployed MEU in the Marine Corps. Exercise Iron Fist 2023 marked a historic milestone as the 17th iteration of the annual bilateral exercise and the first time it was hosted entirely in Japan, running from February 16 to March 12, 2023, with U.S. Marines, U.S. Navy Sailors of the America Amphibious Ready Group, and Japan Self-Defense Force members training together to secure and defend key maritime terrain. The five-week exercise covered advanced marksmanship, amphibious reconnaissance, fire and maneuver assaults, logistics, medical support, and close-air support operations. Iron Fist 2023 also expanded participation to include the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force alongside the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, deepening the combined crisis response capability that defines the 31st MEU mission in the Indo-Pacific. This patch marks that specific exercise year, tying the Flying Tigers callsign and the Osprey mission directly to a landmark moment in U.S.-Japan alliance readiness.
Perfect for VMM-262 Flying Tigers veterans and alumni, 31st MEU crew members and maintainers, Iron Fist 2023 participants, MV-22B Osprey enthusiasts, Marine Aircraft Group 36 collectors, Okinawa-based Marine Corps families, Indo-Pacific exercise memorabilia collectors, shadow box builders, reunion displays, challenge coin and patch boards, and anyone preserving the story of forward-deployed Marine aviation and the bilateral partnerships that underpin regional security in the Western Pacific.
