Official VMM-164 Knightriders PVC Glow Knight Crew Patch — Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 164 PVC Patch

The Knightriders ride into the night—VMM-164, carrying Marines into battle aboard the MV-22 Osprey from MCAS Camp Pendleton with the warrior spirit that earned their name.

Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 164 (VMM-164), the "Knightriders," is assigned to Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, I Marine Expeditionary Force, based at Marine Corps Air Station Camp Pendleton, California. The squadron operates the Bell Boeing MV-22B Osprey tiltrotor aircraft, providing assault support transport of combat troops, supplies, and equipment during amphibious operations and subsequent operations ashore. The Knightriders carry the tail code "YT" and stand ready to deploy as the Aviation Combat Element of a Marine Expeditionary Unit or as part of larger Marine Air-Ground Task Force operations.

The squadron traces its lineage to 7 February 1964, when it was activated as Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 164 (HMM-164) at Marine Corps Air Station Santa Ana, California. The Knightriders deployed to Vietnam in October 1965, operating the CH-46 Sea Knight from Marble Mountain Air Facility and other forward locations throughout I Corps Tactical Zone. During the Vietnam War, the squadron provided troop lift, resupply, medical evacuation, and aerial assault support for Marine ground forces, flying into hotly contested landing zones under intense enemy fire. The squadron's crews demonstrated extraordinary courage in extracting wounded Marines and inserting reinforcements during some of the war's most desperate engagements.

This PVC glow patch features the Knightriders' distinctive knight crew design with glow-in-the-dark elements, capturing the squadron's identity as armored warriors delivering Marines into the fight—day or night. Following its transition from the CH-46E Sea Knight to the MV-22B Osprey, VMM-164 has deployed as part of the 15th and 13th Marine Expeditionary Units, conducting operations across the Western Pacific, the Middle East, and the Indo-Pacific region. The Osprey's combination of speed, range, and vertical lift capability has transformed the Knightriders' mission, allowing them to insert Marines at distances and speeds impossible with legacy helicopters.

Perfect For: VMM-164 Knightriders members and veterans, HMM-164 Vietnam-era alumni, MV-22 Osprey tiltrotor community members, MAG-39 and 3rd MAW personnel, MCAS Camp Pendleton Marines, and PVC glow patch collectors.

The Knightriders of VMM-164—armored warriors of the sky, carrying Marines into the fight aboard the Osprey from Camp Pendleton to every corner of the globe.
