VMM-162 (REIN) designates the Golden Eagles operating in a reinforced configuration as the Aviation Combat Element of a Marine Expeditionary Unit. In this role, the squadron is augmented with additional aircraft types — attack helicopters, heavy-lift helos, and utility birds — creating a self-contained aviation task force capable of assault support, casualty evacuation, close air support, and logistics across the MEU's area of operations. The REIN designation represents the full-spectrum capability that VMM-162 brings to expeditionary operations.
