Official VMFA-121 Green Knights F-35B Shoulder Patch — Have Guns, Will Travel
The first operational F-35B squadron in any branch. Period.
VMFA-121 "Green Knights" holds a legacy that stretches from the beaches of Guadalcanal to the flight line at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan. Activated in June 1941, the Green Knights flew Wildcats and Corsairs as charter members of the legendary Cactus Air Force during WWII, then flew A-4 Skyhawks in Vietnam where they shattered the Marine attack squadron ordnance record. The squadron became the first Marine F/A-18D night attack squadron in 1989 and logged more combat hours than any other Navy or Marine tactical jet squadron during Desert Storm. On November 20, 2012, VMFA-121 became the first operational F-35B Lightning II squadron in any service. In January 2017, the Green Knights permanently relocated to MCAS Iwakuni, becoming the first forward-deployed fifth-generation fighter unit in history. Operating under MAG-12, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing with the callsign "Combat" and tail code VK, this squadron doesn't just make history — it is history.
Perfect For: VMFA-121 Green Knights Marines past and present, F-35B Lightning II community members, MCAS Iwakuni personnel, 1st MAW aviators, and anyone who respects a squadron that was first in stealth.
Green Knights — callsign Combat, because that's what they do.
