VMA-231, the Ace of Spades, flew the AV-8B Harrier II out of MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina — one of the most maintenance-intensive aircraft in the Marine Corps inventory. This Heavy Hitters Maintenance patch honors the maintainers who kept these jump jets turning and burning: the airframers, powerplant mechanics, avionics techs, and ordnance Marines who made vertical/short takeoff and landing possible on a daily basis. The Harrier community demanded an extraordinary level of skill and dedication from its maintenance crews, and the Ace of Spades maintainers delivered. This patch is their recognition.
