Marine Attack Squadron 231, the Ace of Spades, made history as one of the last AV-8B Harrier squadrons to deploy with a Marine Expeditionary Unit. This patch commemorates their deployment with the 26th MEU as the "Last of the VTOL Outlaws," marking the end of an era for the vertical/short takeoff and landing attack mission that defined Marine close air support for decades. VMA-231 carried the Harrier's legacy into its final operational chapter, proving that the jump jet remained a lethal and relevant weapons system until the very end.
