Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 124 (VAW-124) "Bear Aces" is a United States Navy E-2D Advanced Hawkeye squadron based at Naval Air Station Norfolk, Virginia, and assigned to Carrier Air Wing Eight (CVW-8). This Christmas shoulder patch features the squadron's beloved bear mascot in festive holiday attire — a seasonal twist on one of naval aviation's most iconic squadron identities.
VAW-124 provides the airborne early warning, command and control, and battle management capabilities that are the eyes and ears of the carrier strike group. Operating the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye with its revolutionary AN/APY-9 radar, the Bear Aces detect, track, and manage threats across hundreds of miles of airspace and ocean, directing fighters to intercept targets and coordinating the complex aerial ballet of carrier operations. Deployed aboard USS Harry S. Truman and other carriers, VAW-124 has served in every major naval operation of the modern era.
