Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 123 (VAW-123) "Screwtops" is one of the Navy's premier E-2C/E-2D Hawkeye squadrons, based at Naval Station Norfolk as part of Carrier Air Wing 8. "Hummerfest" is the legendary annual gathering of the E-2 Hawkeye community at NAS Key West — a combination of tactical training, professional development, and the kind of camaraderie that only happens when you put a bunch of Hawkeye aircrew in the Florida Keys. The "Hummer" nickname comes from the distinctive sound of the E-2's twin turboprops, and Hummerfest is where the community bonds over shared experiences, war stories, and an appreciation for Key West's unique lifestyle. This 2022 edition shoulder patch commemorates the Screwtops' participation in that year's event — a piece of Hawkeye culture that only those in the community truly understand.
