Official USMC AV-8 Harrier II Legacy Coins - United States Marine Corps McDonnell Douglas AV-8B Harrier II V/STOL Attack Aircraft Commemorative Challenge Coin.

Forty years of vertical power, close air support, and Marine Corps expeditionary identity cast into a single collectible coin.

The AV-8B Harrier II entered service with the United States Marine Corps in January 1985 and immediately redefined what expeditionary air power could look like. Capable of vertical and short takeoff and landing, the aircraft gave Marine commanders a jet that could operate from amphibious assault ships, forward operating sites, and improvised airstrips far from conventional runways. Its mission set covered close air support, armed reconnaissance, and offensive air support for Marine expeditionary forces across four decades of continuous service. The Harrier flew in Operation Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation Inherent Resolve, earning a reputation as the most adaptable attack platform in the Marine Corps inventory. Squadrons including VMA-223 Bulldogs, VMA-311 Tomcats, VMA-231 Ace of Spades, VMA-214, VMA-542, and VMA-211 each built their own chapter of Harrier history before transitioning to the F-35B Lightning II. The Marine Corps held a formal Sundown Ceremony at MCAS Cherry Point in June 2026, marking the retirement of the last operational Harriers after more than forty years of service. This legacy coin captures that full arc of history in a format built for display, collection, and remembrance.

Perfect For: Marine Corps aviation veterans, AV-8B Harrier pilots and aircrew, VMA squadron alumni, MCAS Cherry Point and Yuma veterans, Marine attack aviation collectors, shadow box and display case builds, squadron reunion gifts, challenge coin boards, and anyone who wants a tangible tribute to one of the most distinctive aircraft in Marine Corps history. It also suits family members, historians, and supporters who followed the Harrier from its first fleet deliveries through its final Sundown Ceremony and want a coin that honors the crews, maintainers, and squadrons behind every mission.

Harrier legacy, grounded in forty years of Marine Corps service and preserved in every coin.
