Marine Air Control Squadron 2 traces its lineage to April 1, 1944, when it was formed as Marine Air Warning Squadron 11 at MCAS Cherry Point. Through redesignation and reactivation during the Korean War buildup, MACS-2 has served in the Pacific, Desert Shield/Desert Storm (establishing the primary Tactical Air Operations Center in Saudi Arabia), Kosovo, the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and sustained TAOC operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan from 2009–2014 — where MACS-2 and MACS-1 together coordinated over 320,000 fixed-wing and 80,000 aerial refueling operations across 70,000 square miles of airspace.
