MALS-36's Quality Assurance and Safety Office (QASO) ensures that every maintenance action performed on 1st Marine Aircraft Wing aircraft meets the exacting standards required for flight safety. The Shisha Dog — the iconic Okinawan guardian lion — represents the protective spirit of the QA Marines who stand between substandard maintenance and the aircrew who trust their lives to the work. Based at MCAS Futenma under the 1st MAW, MALS-36 QA Marines inspect, verify, and certify every critical maintenance action.
