VAW-117 "Wallbangers" is a United States Navy Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron flying the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye out of NAS Point Mugu, California. As part of Carrier Air Wing 9, the Wallbangers provide the battle group commander with all-weather airborne early warning, command and control, and battle management — essentially serving as the flying nerve center that keeps the entire carrier strike group aware of every threat in the battlespace. The E-2 Hawkeye's distinctive rotodome makes it one of the most recognizable aircraft in naval aviation, and the crews who fly it are the unsung heroes of every carrier deployment.
