Official HSM-46 Grandmasters H-60 Seahawk Tail Flash Patch — Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 46 MH-60R NAS Mayport Embroidered Patch

Anti-submarine, anti-surface, and a knight on every tail — the Grandmasters dominate the maritime board.

Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 46 (HSM-46), the "Grandmasters," is a US Navy expeditionary helicopter squadron based at Naval Station Mayport, Florida, currently flying the Sikorsky MH-60R Seahawk. The squadron was originally commissioned as Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light Forty-Six (HSL-46) on March 16, 1990 at NAS Mayport — the East Coast's last new HSL squadron stand-up — flying the SH-60B Seahawk under the Light Airborne Multi-Purpose System (LAMPS) Mark III construct. As an HSL squadron the Grandmasters deployed Det aircraft and crews aboard FFG-7 Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigates, CG-47 Ticonderoga-class cruisers, and DDG-51 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers across the Atlantic, Mediterranean, and US Southern Command area of operations, conducting anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, and counter-narcotics operations. In 2009 HSL-46 transitioned to the MH-60R Seahawk under the Navy's Helicopter Master Plan and was redesignated HSM-46. The Grandmasters now deploy as full nine-aircraft squadrons embarked aboard East Coast and Pacific Northwest carrier air wings as well as detachments aboard surface combatants, providing the integrated MH-60R / MH-60S "Romeo and Sierra" maritime helicopter capability that defines the modern surface fleet. The squadron's distinctive red, white, and black knight emblem and "GD" tailcode appear on every Seahawk on the Mayport flight line.

Perfect For: HSM-46 Grandmasters active-duty and veteran personnel, MH-60R Seahawk pilots, naval aircrewmen (AWR), and maintainers, SH-60B Seahawk and HSL-46 LAMPS heritage veterans, NAS Mayport and Jacksonville Florida naval aviation residents, surface combatant DDG / CG / FFG detachment alumni, and Helicopter Maritime Strike community supporters.

Grandmasters — checkmate from the deck since 1990.
