Official HSM-35 Magicians shoulder patch.
The Magicians — first MH-60R/MQ-8B composite expeditionary squadron, North Island.
Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 35 (HSM-35), the "Magicians," is a U.S. Navy MH-60R Seahawk and MQ-8B Fire Scout composite expeditionary squadron based at Naval Air Station North Island, San Diego, California, with the tail code TG. HSM-35 was established on May 2, 2013 at NAS North Island as the Navy's first composite expeditionary helicopter squadron — purpose-built to operate both the manned MH-60R and the unmanned MQ-8B Fire Scout side-by-side from littoral combat ships and other Pacific Fleet warships. The Magicians' lineage traces back to Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light 35 (HSL-35), which was commissioned in 1974, also at North Island, and disestablished in 1992 — that heritage of West Coast LAMPS and HSL-community detachment operations was carried forward when HSM-35 stood up. Today HSM-35 fields roughly nine MH-60Rs and two MQ-8B Fire Scouts with more than 280 personnel, deploying detachments aboard RAST-capable frigates, destroyers, cruisers, aircraft carriers, and the LCS class to provide anti-submarine warfare, surface warfare, electronic warfare, command and control, search and rescue, and mobility for Pacific Fleet warships. This shoulder patch is the Magicians' calling card — a salute to the LAMPS heritage and the new manned-unmanned teaming era they helped pioneer.
Perfect For: HSM-35 Magicians active-duty and veteran personnel, MH-60R Seahawk pilots and aircrew, MQ-8B Fire Scout operators, NAS North Island Sailors, Pacific Fleet helicopter community members, HSL-35 plankowners, and littoral combat ship aviation detachment veterans.
Magicians — manned, unmanned, and out front since 2013.
