Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 262 (HMM-262) "Flying Tigers" is the predecessor designation of today's VMM-262, one of the most recognized and storied helicopter squadrons in the United States Marine Corps. This original tiger PVC patch celebrates the classic HMM-262 insignia from the CH-46 Sea Knight era, when the Flying Tigers flew medium-lift helicopters throughout the Pacific and into combat.
HMM-262 earned its legendary reputation through decades of service in the Western Pacific, including combat operations in Vietnam, humanitarian missions, and forward-deployed service from Okinawa. The Flying Tigers name — shared with the famous World War II American Volunteer Group that fought in China — gave the squadron an instantly recognizable identity that struck fear into enemies and pride into its Marines. The original tiger design featured on this PVC patch represents the squadron during its classic era, before the transition to the MV-22B Osprey and redesignation as VMM-262.
