Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 464 deployed a detachment as part of a Marine Expeditionary Unit in 2023, providing CH-53E Super Stallion heavy-lift capability aboard an amphibious assault ship. MEU detachments operate semi-independently from the main squadron, maintaining their aircraft and executing missions in support of the MEU's crisis response and contingency operations. HMH-464's 2023 MEU DET carried the Condors' heavy-lift mission across the ocean, proving once again that the CH-53E is essential to amphibious operations.
