This cold weather shoulder patch commemorates HMH-464's participation in cold weather training exercises, where the massive CH-53 platform was tested in snow, ice, and sub-zero conditions. Cold weather operations present unique challenges for heavy-lift helicopters — from icing on rotor blades to reduced engine performance at extreme temperatures — and the Condors' training ensured their readiness to operate the Super Stallion in any climate. Marine aviation must be prepared to fight everywhere, and this patch proves the Condors trained for it.
