Carrier Air Wing Five (CVW-5) is the U.S. Navy's only permanently forward-deployed carrier air wing, based at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan, with elements at NAF Atsugi. Assigned to Carrier Strike Group 5 aboard USS Ronald Reagan and now USS George Washington, CVW-5 maintains a constant state of combat readiness in the Western Pacific — the most strategically contested maritime theater in the world. The "Team Badman" identity reflects the air wing's aggressive, mission-first culture and its unique position as the Navy's always-ready Pacific strike force. CVW-5's squadrons conduct the full spectrum of carrier air operations: air superiority, strike warfare, electronic attack, airborne early warning, and anti-submarine warfare.
