Official 7th Infantry Division Lightfighters Air Assault School Shoulder Patch - 7th Infantry Division (Light), Fort Ord, California Air Assault School Embroidered Shoulder Sleeve Insignia Patch.

Light, Silent, and Deadly — the Lightfighter creed stitched into every thread of this Air Assault School shoulder patch from the Army's first purpose-built light infantry division.

In October 1985, the 7th Infantry Division redesignated as the 7th Infantry Division (Light) at Fort Ord, California, becoming the first U.S. Army division purpose-built as a light infantry force under the Lightfighter Initiative. The division operated without heavy armor, relying instead on speed, stealth, and air mobility to project combat power. The Air Assault School at Fort Ord was central to that identity, training soldiers in rappelling, sling-load operations, and helicopter insertion and extraction techniques that defined how Lightfighters moved and fought. The division answered real-world calls under that doctrine, deploying to Honduras in 1988 for Operation Golden Pheasant and to Panama in 1989 and 1990 for Operation Just Cause. The Lightfighter era closed when the division was deactivated on 15 June 1994 and Fort Ord shuttered that September, making every piece of insignia from this period a direct artifact of a short but operationally significant chapter in Army light infantry history. This shoulder patch ties the Air Assault School credential to the broader Lightfighter story in one embroidered piece.

Perfect For: 7th Infantry Division veterans, Fort Ord alumni, Air Assault School graduates, Army light infantry collectors, Operation Just Cause and Operation Golden Pheasant veterans, shadow box builders, unit reunion displays, military history enthusiasts, and family members honoring a Lightfighter's service. It also suits collectors focused on Cold War-era Army doctrine, the evolution of light infantry tactics, and the distinctive Fort Ord training culture that shaped an entire generation of air assault-qualified soldiers between 1985 and 1994.

Lightfighter heritage, Air Assault earned, Fort Ord remembered.
