Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 501 (VMFAT-501), the Warlords, is the Marine Corps' Fleet Replacement Squadron for the F-35B Lightning II, based at MCAS Beaufort, South Carolina — deep in the heart of the Low Country. This shoulder patch blends VMFAT-501's fifth-generation fighter mission with the distinctive culture and landscape of coastal South Carolina. The Warlords are responsible for training every Marine F-35B pilot, ensuring they are proficient in the aircraft's stealth capabilities, advanced sensor fusion, and short takeoff/vertical landing operations before joining operational squadrons. Beaufort's proximity to excellent training airspace makes it an ideal home for this critical mission.
