Officially Licensed USMC VMFA-211 Wake Island Avengers Patch - Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 211 (VMFA-211) F-35B Lightning II Officially Licensed USMC Embroidered Patch.
Wake Island Avengers and Bastion Defenders — two names earned the hard way, carried forward in every deployment since December 1941.
VMFA-211 traces its lineage to 1 January 1937 and carries one of the most decorated combat records in Marine Corps aviation. In December 1941, the squadron's pilots flew F4F Wildcats from Wake Island against overwhelming Japanese forces, and after losing their last aircraft, fought on as ground troops until the atoll fell. Capt. Henry T. Elrod became the first Marine aviator awarded the Medal of Honor in World War II for his actions during that defense. The squadron rebuilt, adopted the Avengers name to honor those killed or captured, and went on to earn the Presidential Unit Citation three times across Wake Island, Korea, and Vietnam. Decades of combat followed through the A-4 Skyhawk, AV-8B Harrier, and multiple Middle East deployments. In 2016 the squadron transitioned to the F-35B Lightning II and was redesignated VMFA-211, becoming the second Marine fleet squadron to operate the fifth-generation stealth STOVL jet. In September 2018, flying from USS Essex, the Avengers launched the first F-35 combat mission in United States history. The squadron later deployed aboard HMS Queen Elizabeth as part of the UK Carrier Strike Group 2021, demonstrating the F-35B's reach across allied decks. Today VMFA-211 operates under Marine Aircraft Group 13 and the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing at MCAS Yuma, Arizona.
Perfect for VMFA-211 veterans and alumni, F-35B Lightning II enthusiasts, Marine Corps aviation collectors, MAG-13 and 3rd MAW supporters, Wake Island history buffs, shadow box builders, deployment keepsake displays, challenge coin and patch boards, reunion gifts, and anyone preserving the story of one of the most combat-tested squadrons in Marine Corps history. It also makes a meaningful tribute for families and supporters who want a single emblem to represent eight decades of sacrifice, adaptation, and first-in-combat milestones from the Pacific to Afghanistan and beyond.
Wake Island heritage, Bastion resolve, and F-35 lethality — stitched into one officially licensed patch.
