Official VMFA-121 Green Knights Northern Edge Patch — Fifth Gen Meets the Last Frontier
When the F-35B heads to Alaska, the threat environment gets very real.
VMFA-121 "Green Knights" is the Marine Corps' premier F-35B Lightning II squadron, based at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan — the first permanently forward-deployed fifth-generation stealth fighter squadron in the world. Exercise Northern Edge is one of the U.S. military's largest joint training exercises, conducted in Alaska's massive airspace ranges where fighters, bombers, tankers, and electronic warfare aircraft simulate near-peer adversary scenarios. For the Green Knights, Northern Edge represents a chance to integrate with Air Force, Navy, and allied assets in the kind of multi-domain combat environment the F-35 was designed to dominate. Originally commissioned in 1941, VMFA-121 transitioned to the F-35B in 2012, declared IOC in 2015, and relocated to Iwakuni in 2017. This Northern Edge deployment patch commemorates the Green Knights bringing stealth lethality to the Alaskan frontier.
Perfect For: VMFA-121 Green Knights Marines, F-35B Lightning II pilots and maintainers, Northern Edge exercise participants, MCAS Iwakuni personnel, and anyone who knows that fifth-gen dominance is tested in the cold.
