Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 121 (VMFA-121), the Green Knights, are forward-deployed to MCAS Iwakuni, Japan, under Marine Aircraft Group 12 and 1st Marine Aircraft Wing. This Japan-specific embroidered patch marks VMFA-121's status as the first operational F-35B Lightning II squadron deployed to the Western Pacific. The Green Knights' presence at Iwakuni provides III Marine Expeditionary Force with fifth-generation stealth fighter capability, fundamentally changing the balance of airpower in the region. The squadron's motto "Have Gun Will Travel" takes on new meaning when that gun is the most advanced fighter on the planet.
