Hot LZ Med Evac Patch CH-46 — Embroidered Patch
Incoming on Final
A hot LZ meant one thing — somebody was wounded, the enemy was close, and the only way out was through. This CH-46 medevac patch honors the Sea Knight crews who flew into landing zones under active enemy fire to extract wounded Marines. There was no air superiority at treetop level. There was only the mission, the bird, and the will to bring them home.
The Boeing Vertol CH-46 Sea Knight — the "Phrog" — became the backbone of Marine medium-lift helicopter operations during the Vietnam War, gradually replacing the UH-34D in assault and medevac roles. The tandem-rotor helicopter could carry more casualties, fly faster, and operate in conditions that pushed the older Seahorse to its limits. CH-46 medevac crews developed techniques for approaching hot landing zones that minimized exposure time while maximizing the number of casualties they could extract. The crews — pilots, copilots, crew chiefs, and gunners — operated as a precision team, with crew chiefs often directing the approach while simultaneously manning their weapons and preparing to load wounded. These medevac missions were among the most dangerous in Vietnam, with crews accepting fire on approach, in the zone, and on departure.
Perfect For:
CH-46 aircrew veterans, Vietnam medevac crews, Marine helicopter pilots, Phrog community members, combat rescue enthusiasts, and military aviation patch collectors
The Phrog went in. The wounded came out. That was the deal.
