Marine Air Traffic Control Unit 70 provided deployable air traffic control capability for Marine aviation, establishing approach control, tower operations, and ground control at forward airfields and expeditionary airstrips worldwide. MATCU-70 Marines operated portable radar and communications equipment that could be set up rapidly to enable safe Marine aviation operations at locations where no ATC infrastructure existed.
