Marine Air Traffic Control Units (MATCUs) provided expeditionary air traffic control services, deploying portable radar and communications equipment to establish air traffic control at forward operating locations, austere airfields, and expeditionary airstrips. MATCU-62 Marines operated approach control, ground control, and departure services in environments where no permanent ATC infrastructure existed, enabling Marine aviation to operate safely from the most remote and austere locations.
