IYAOYAS stands for If You Ain't Ordnance, You Ain't Shit, and it is the unofficial battle cry of the Aviation Ordnance community across the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. Aviation Ordnancemen, known by the AO rating in the Navy, are the red-shirted flight deck specialists who build, arm, load, and inspect every weapon that leaves the ship. Their working environment includes the flight decks and weapons magazines of aircraft carriers and amphibious assault ships, where the combination of jet blast, live munitions, and tight timelines makes precision non-negotiable. The ordnance they handle ranges from 500-pound and 2,000-pound bombs to air-to-air missiles, anti-ship missiles, torpedoes, and gun ammunition.
