The HMHT-302 "It'll Buff Out" patch is a maintenance morale patch from Marine Heavy Helicopter Training Squadron 302, based at MCAS New River, North Carolina. The phrase "It'll buff out" is the universal maintainer's response to any aircraft damage, dent, scratch, or mechanical issue — a humorous expression of the can-do attitude that defines the maintenance community.
HMHT-302 is the CH-53 Fleet Replacement Squadron, training new pilots and maintainers on the Super Stallion. The "Shitter" (as the CH-53 is affectionately known) is one of the most maintenance-intensive aircraft in military service, and HMHT-302's maintenance Marines see every possible type of wear, damage, and mechanical issue as they train new crews on the aircraft. "It'll buff out" is the maintenance equivalent of "Semper Fi" — no matter how bad the damage looks, the wrench-turners will find a way to fix it, sign it off, and get the bird back in the air. This patch celebrates that indomitable maintenance spirit.
