The HMH-466 "Wolfpack" nugget patch is awarded to newly assigned pilots, aircrew, and maintainers who have just reported to the squadron — the "nuggets" who are fresh to the CH-53E Super Stallion community and have yet to prove themselves in the Wolfpack. In Marine aviation tradition, a "nugget" is someone who hasn't yet completed their first deployment or achieved a key qualification, and this patch marks that transitional period with pride and humor.
HMH-466 Wolfpack operates the CH-53E Super Stallion from MCAS Miramar, California, conducting heavy-lift helicopter operations for the Marine Corps. New arrivals to the squadron — whether freshly winged pilots from the Fleet Replacement Squadron or newly trained maintainers — wear the nugget patch as a rite of passage. It's a badge that says "I'm new here, and I'm ready to learn." The nugget phase is a crucible where new Wolfpack members prove their worth through hard work, dedication, and the willingness to absorb everything the experienced hands can teach them.
