HH-46 Phrog Patch — Embroidered Patch
The Search and Rescue Phrog
The HH-46 designation marked the CH-46 Sea Knight in its combat search and rescue configuration — the Phrog configured specifically to go get downed aircrew and bring them home. This patch honors the crews who flew the SAR mission, standing ready around the clock to launch into hostile territory at a moment's notice.
While the CH-46 is best known as a medium-lift assault transport, the HH-46 variant served a critical search and rescue role for the Marine Corps. SAR-configured Phrogs stood alert at forward bases and aboard amphibious ships, ready to launch on short notice when an aircraft went down or a crew needed extraction from hostile territory. The SAR crews trained specifically for the rescue mission, developing techniques for locating downed aircrew in dense terrain, performing precision hovers in confined spaces, and defending the aircraft during the recovery. The HH-46 flew alongside dedicated SAR helicopters in other services, carrying the reputation of the Phrog community into one of aviation's most demanding missions — bringing people home alive.
Perfect For:
HH-46 SAR crews, combat search and rescue veterans, Phrog community members, CH-46 aircrew, rescue helicopter enthusiasts, and military aviation patch collectors
The Phrog that brought them home.
