Eugene Bullard WWI Commemorative PVC Patch — The Black Swallow of Death
Eugene Bullard was the first African American combat pilot — a hero who had to fly for France because America wouldn't let him.
This PVC commemorative patch honors Eugene Jacques Bullard, the first African American military pilot, who flew as a combat aviator for France during World War I because the United States military refused to accept Black pilots. Known as the "Black Swallow of Death," Bullard served in the French Foreign Legion, was wounded at Verdun, and then earned his pilot's wings and flew combat missions with the Lafayette Flying Corps. His motto "All Blood is Red" challenged the racism of his era. Bullard wasn't recognized by the United States until decades after his service.
Perfect For: Aviation history enthusiasts, civil rights supporters, WWI aviation historians, African American military heritage fans, and commemorative PVC patch collectors.
