The helicopter door gunner is one of the most iconic positions in Marine Corps aviation. From the UH-34 in Vietnam to the UH-1 Huey and CH-46 Sea Knight, door gunners provided suppressive fire during landings, departures, and en route to landing zones. They were the aircrew members who sat behind the guns with the doors open, watching the ground and ready to engage threats. Door gunners are the eyes and firepower at the helicopter's most vulnerable points — and they've been part of every Marine rotary-wing combat operation since Vietnam.
