Aircraft Warning Squadron AWS-11 — Embroidered Patch
The Original Air Watchers
AWS-11 traces back to the earliest days of Marine Corps air defense, when spotters and radar operators provided the first warning of incoming enemy aircraft. This heritage patch represents the Marines who served in one of the original aircraft warning squadrons.
Aircraft Warning Squadrons were among the earliest dedicated air defense units in the Marine Corps, established during World War II to provide early warning of approaching enemy aircraft through radar surveillance and visual observation. AWS-11 Marines operated the primitive but critical radar systems that gave Marine commanders their first reliable picture of the air battlespace. These squadrons evolved into the modern Marine Air Control Squadrons (MACS) that operate today's sophisticated radar and command and control systems.
Perfect For:
AWS-11 veterans and descendants, World War II Marine aviation enthusiasts, Marine air defense heritage collectors, and early radar history buffs.
