Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal Patch — Embroidered Patch
When the Nation Called
The Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal recognizes participation in military operations that don't qualify for a specific campaign medal — the deployments and contingencies that keep the military busy between the wars that make headlines. This patch represents service in the dozens of operations that have kept American forces engaged around the globe.
The Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal was established by Executive Order 10977 on December 4, 1961, and has been awarded for participation in over 50 military operations since its creation. These include operations in Lebanon, the Dominican Republic, Grenada, Panama, Somalia, Haiti, Bosnia, Kosovo, and numerous other contingencies that required the deployment of American military forces. The AFEM is awarded when no specific campaign medal has been authorized for the operation, making it the catch-all recognition for the countless smaller deployments that characterize American military engagement worldwide. For the service members who earn it, each AFEM represents a real deployment with real risks.
Perfect For:
