A-6 Intruder Patch — Embroidered Patch
All Weather, All Night, All Business
The A-6 Intruder went where other aircraft couldn't — into weather that grounded the rest of the air wing, at night when visibility was zero, and against targets that demanded precision in conditions that made precision almost impossible. This patch honors the crews who flew the Intruder in some of the most demanding attack missions in naval aviation history.
The Grumman A-6 Intruder was the Navy and Marine Corps' premier all-weather, medium attack aircraft from the mid-1960s through the early 1990s. Its sophisticated DIANE (Digital Integrated Attack Navigation Equipment) system gave the two-man crew — a pilot and bombardier/navigator sitting side by side — the ability to find and strike targets in conditions that no other aircraft of its era could handle. Marine A-6 squadrons flew devastating night and all-weather bombing missions in Vietnam, often striking targets that had been impossible to hit during daylight hours. The Intruder continued its service through the Cold War and saw extensive combat in Desert Storm, where Marine VMA(AW) squadrons delivered precision ordnance against Iraqi targets. The A-6 was retired in the mid-1990s but remains one of the most respected attack aircraft ever to serve.
Perfect For:
A-6 Intruder pilots and bombardier/navigators, VMA(AW) squadron veterans, all-weather attack aviation enthusiasts, Vietnam and Desert Storm veterans, naval attack aircraft collectors, and Grumman aircraft enthusiasts
