Legacy US Customs 1996 Atlanta Olympics NASO Patch — Airspace Security Federal Law Enforcement Embroidered Patch
Summer of '96 — the world was watching Atlanta, and Customs had the airspace locked down. If you were part of the NASO detail, this patch is a piece of Olympic security history.
The U.S. Customs National Air Security Operations (NASO) program deployed to the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics to enforce the temporary flight restrictions and provide aerial security over one of the largest sporting events in history. Working alongside the FAA, Secret Service, and military assets, Customs Air Branch crews monitored the skies above Atlanta's Olympic venues to detect and intercept unauthorized aircraft. The 1996 Games marked one of the earliest large-scale airspace security operations for Customs — a mission template that would become critically important after September 11, 2001.
