First adopted on 14 June 1777, the flag mirrors the canton of the national ensign and has grown alongside the nation, gaining a star for every state admitted to the union. It flies from the jackstaff at the bow of Navy vessels when anchored or moored, marking American nationality and naval presence in ports around the world. The flag's significance deepened in 2019 when the Chief of Naval Operations directed its return to all Navy jackstaffs, citing its deep connection to American heritage and the rise of a global Navy. That decision was timed to honor the anniversary of the Battle of Midway, linking the Union Jack directly to one of the most decisive naval victories in history. The embroidered patch format captures the clean geometry of the design, with its bold blue field and precisely rendered white stars, making it a natural fit for collections built around naval history, maritime service, and American flag heritage.

Perfect For: US Navy veterans, active-duty sailors, Coast Guard and Military Sealift Command personnel, maritime history collectors, naval flag enthusiasts, shadow box displays, uniform patch panels, sea service reunion gifts, and anyone building a collection around American naval heritage and flag tradition.
