The Golden Eagles made aviation history during the 1958 Lebanon crisis by executing the first ship-to-shore helicopter assault in combat, a milestone that defined the squadron's assault-support identity for generations. Over the following decades the unit flew through Vietnam, the Gulf War, noncombatant evacuation operations in Liberia, humanitarian relief in Haiti, and combat deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The squadron's aircraft evolved from the Sikorsky HRS-3 through the UH-34D and the CH-46 Sea Knight before the Golden Eagles entered cadre status in 2005 to prepare for the tiltrotor era. VMM-162 was reactivated on August 31, 2006, as the second operational MV-22B Osprey squadron in the Marine Corps. Today the squadron operates roughly twelve Osprey aircraft and approximately 550 personnel under Marine Aircraft Group 26 and the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing at MCAS New River, North Carolina, providing medium-lift vertical envelopment and expeditionary assault support. The squadron was named squadron of the year in 2023, a recognition that reflects the same standard of readiness the Golden Eagles have carried since the Korean War era.

Perfect For: VMM-162 Golden Eagles veterans and active-duty crew members, MV-22B Osprey pilots and maintainers, MAG-26 and 2nd MAW alumni, Marines who served during the CH-46 Sea Knight years, deployment keepsake collectors, shadow box builders, reunion attendees, family members honoring a Golden Eagles Marine, and anyone assembling a serious Marine aviation unit-history collection that spans tiltrotor and helicopter eras.

Golden Eagles heritage, worn with the pride of every assault, every lift, and every mission since 1951.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0742/9831/files/2x4Patch_13_9988d997-311e-4dae-bdb1-d54813e2a5b7.png?v=1786387609
